Le Fad œuvre à l’augmentation de la production et des revenus agricoles au Mali

production des agriculteurs de la région de Bamako, au Mali,
augmentera sensiblement grâce à une nouvelle opération du
Fonds africain de développement. Le prêt de 14,92 millions
d’unités de compte* (22 millions de dollars ou 11,8
milliards CFA) que le conseil d’administration du Fad a
approuvé aujourd’hui financera le projet
d’intensification du périmètre de Baguinéda (30 Km au
nord-est de Bamako, en rive droite du fleuve Niger).

Le projet d’intensification
du périmètre irrigué de Baguinéda permettra de générer des
productions additionnelles de 7.400 t/an de paddy, de 11.200
tonnes de tomates, 8.000 tonnes d’oignon et de 1.200 tonnes
de maïs par an.
En plus de leur contribution à
l’amélioration des revenus des populations riveraines du
canal de Baguinéda, les actions prévues dans le cadre du projet
renforcent les capacités des organisations professionnelles
agricoles et de la commune, ainsi que la sécurisation foncière
et instaurent un cadre favorable à l’investissement.
Le projet alphabétisera et
formera 5.500 personnes dont 2.500 femmes aussi bien dans les
techniques de production que de gestion et de commercialisation.
Il renforcera les infrastructures rurales et socio-sanitaires et
augmentera les revenus et améliorera directement les conditions
de vie des populations (28.000 habitants) de la commune de
Baguinéda.
Malgré les potentialités en
ressources naturelles dont le pays est doté, l’économie
malienne reste marquée paradoxalement par un niveau de pauvreté
élevé de la population totale, Le potentiel disponible à
Baguinéda aux portes de Bamako, reste aussi sous-exploité,
malgré l’existence de marchés et de la compétitivité du
riz et des produits issus du périmètre irrigué de Baguinéda.
Le projet d’intensification du périmètre irrigué de
Baguinéda permettra de valoriser davantage ce potentiel et
d’exploiter les marchés.
Les opérations du Groupe de la
Banque africaine de développement au Mali ont commencé en 1970.
A ce jour, ses engagements y sont de 474 milliards CFA pour
85 opérations.

ADF Seeks to Increase Mali’s Agricultural Production and Income
Tunis, 30 November 2005 –
Agricultural production in the region of Bamako, Mali, is
expected to increase with the support of the African Development
Fund. The loan of 14.92 million Units of Account* (US$ 22 million
or CFA 11.8 billion) approved by the Board of Directors of the
ADF today will finance the Baguineda Irrigation Scheme
Intensification Project (30 km to Bamako’s North East, on
the right bank of River Niger).

The project will generate an
additional production of 7.400 t/year of paddy rice, 11.200 tons
of tomato, 8.000 tons of onion and 1,200 tons of maize.
In addition to their contribution
to higher incomes for riparians of the Baguineda canal, project
activities will help build the capacity of professional
agricultural organisations and that of the Commune, secure land
and create an atmosphere conducive to investment.
Under the project, 5,500 people
including 2,500 women will be given literacy and training courses
not only in production techniques but also in management and
marketing. The project will strengthen rural, social and
health facilities, increase incomes and directly improve the
living conditions of people in the Baguineda Commune (28,000
inhabitants).
Despite the country’s
natural resource potential, the Malian economy is poor and
poverty is rife nationwide. The available potential of
Baguineda, just outside Bamako,
is still untapped despite the markets for and competitiveness of
rice and products from the Baguineda irrigation scheme. The
project will help develop more of this potential and make use of
the markets.
The African Development Bank

billion in 85 operations.
